What will this mean for international and domestic investment in the student housing asset class? What about for public private partnerships and underwriters?And will Covid-19 put an end to the sector’s cyclical nature?
Is Student Housing a “safe” investment right now, or a growth market? If it’s growing, where in the US should future development be, and for how long could a growth period last?
Asset management was the immediate story, as new sanitation, staff scheduling and cash flow alterations were required. What are longer term repercussions for operations and design?
Universities and student housing professionals have shown they can work very well together. Are there new ways they can further collaborate and better serve emerging student requirements?

Prior to joining Blue Vista Capital Management in 2018, he was a Director at Kayne Anderson Real Estate where he worked on asset management and acquisitions for KAREA’s student housing and multifamily properties and Peak Campus Management, LLC, where he supported the department heads of the institutional-grade student housing property management company with financial, management and performance analysis.

Julie has focused her career on creating innovative partnerships to support the development of dynamic student life environments driven by institutional objectives. She came to EdR in 2013 with 15 years of higher education planning and implementation experience at Brailsford & Dunlavey (B&D), the University of Cincinnati, and Turner Construction. She has managed the planning and implementation of more than 100 student life facilities on more than 50 campuses, resulting in over $2 billion in development. Julie received her B.A. in architecture from the University of Cincinnati. She is an Ohio‐registered architect and a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Accredited Professional. Julie is also an active member of The Society for College and University Planning, The Association of College and University Housing Officers-International, The National Association of College Auxiliary Services, and The National Association of College and University Business Officers.

Prior to joining Newmark Knight Frank, Ryan was vice president with CBRE’s National Student Housing Group, where he helped lead their team to number one market share position in the country. Before that, Ryan worked as director of multifamily investments for New Orleans-based Stirling Properties, where he specialized in the sale of conventional and student housing assets. While there, he was recognized as the top investment sales broker at Stirling Properties for both 2011 and 2012. Ryan began his real estate career in New York City at Marcus & Millichap, where he gained experience in seller representation, acquisitions and investment underwriting. During his first year there, his investment team was recognized as the number one top-earning team in the office. He was also awarded the Pace Setter award for 2008.
Ryan was named to the NKF Chairman’s Circle in recognition of being one of the top producing brokers in the entire company and he regularly speaks at acclaimed student housing events throughout North America and Europe. Ryan has been featured in the Wall Street Journal and on National Public Radio for his expertise and leadership within the sector. Ryan serves on the board of directors of the National Brain Tumor Society, the largest non-profit brain cancer organization in the world.
